Sol Plaatje University (SPU) offers several on-campus university residences for students who require accommodation. These residences are managed by the university and provide a safe, comfortable, and affordable living environment for students.

The university residences at SPU are divided into three main categories:

  1. Undergraduate Residences: These are residences specifically designed for undergraduate students. They are either single-sex or co-ed residences and offer a range of room types, including single rooms, double rooms, and shared rooms. The undergraduate residences at SPU include Emily Hobhouse, Isaac Wolfson, John Orr, and Ruth First.
  2. Postgraduate Residences: These residences are designed for postgraduate students and offer a range of room types, including single rooms, double rooms, and shared rooms. The postgraduate residences at SPU include Danie Theron and Robert Sobukwe.
  3. Student Village: The Student Village is a modern, apartment-style residence that offers self-catering accommodation for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Each apartment has a kitchen, living area, and shared bathroom facilities.

All the university residences at SPU are equipped with Wi-Fi, study areas, communal kitchens, laundry facilities, and 24-hour security. Students who live in university residences have access to academic support services, recreational facilities, and social activities organized by the university.

It is important to note that the availability of accommodation in the university residences is limited, and students are advised to apply for accommodation as early as possible.

  1. Private Accommodation: Students who prefer to live off-campus can find private accommodation in the surrounding area. SPU has a Student Housing Office that assists students in finding suitable private accommodation options. The office provides a list of private accommodation options, including flats, apartments, and houses, and can also provide advice on rental agreements and lease agreements.

All SPURes:

  • have academic, recreational, and social spaces available
  • are equipped with WiFi
  • have 24-hour on-site security
  • Laundry room
  • Dining halls that use the Meal Management System that require students to book for their meals.

Smoking in residence buildings is prohibited, however Sol Plaatje University has designated smoking zones.
