About University of the Western Cape Online Application 2023-2024 

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a public university located in the Bellville suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. It was established in 1959 as a college for non-white students during apartheid, and it became an independent university in 1970. Today, it is a multi-racial and multi-cultural institution, committed to promoting academic excellence and social justice.

UWC offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate program in various disciplines, including business, law, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and education. The university has several faculties, including Arts, Community and Health Sciences, Dentistry, Economic and Management Sciences, Education, Law, and Natural Sciences.

UWC is known for its focus on research and innovation, and it has a number of research centers and institutes dedicated to various fields, such as the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies, the South African Herbal Science and Medicine Institute, and the Centre for Humanities Research.

UWC Application Dates

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) has specific application dates for different programs. Here are the application dates for the 2023 academic year:

Undergraduate program:

South African citizens and permanent residents: 1 May – 30 September 20213
International applicants: 1 May – 31 August 2023
Postgraduate program:

South African citizens and permanent residents: 1 May – 30 November 2023 (some programs may have earlier deadlines)
International applicants: 1 May – 31 October 2023
It's important to note that some programs may have different application dates, so applicants should check the UWC website for specific programs deadlines. Additionally, some programs may have limited space and may close applications before the deadline, so it's recommended to apply as early as possible.

Applications close on 30 September 2023, all required documents must be submitted by this date as well.
Applications for Bachelor of Dentistry and Oral Health as well as School of Government postgraduate degrees close on 31 August 2023.

Applications for BA Honors Sport Recreation and Exercise Science, BA Honors in Biokinetics and BSC Honors Biokinetics close on 31 July 2022.
PLEASE NOTE: The Department of Sport, Recreation and Exercise Science has a departmental selection process for Post Graduate Applications.

1. You are required to complete 3 referee reports, available from Mrs. D Bowers, on dobowers@uwc.ac.za.
2. You are required to complete a departmental questionnaire link below, where all questions must be answered, a video (outlining why we should choose you, what your research topic/interest is, which is limited to 5 minutes) is required to be uploaded, as well as uploading your 3 referee reports.

Please note the following programmes will NOT be offered in 2023 for first time entering students:
Bachelor of Science in Complementary Health Sciences (General Stream)
Bachelor of Science in Complementary Health Sciences (Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Stream)

Applications for 2023 are closed

NO LATE APPLICATIONS OR WALK-INS WILL BE ACCEPTED 

NO REQUEST FOR A CHANGE OF PROGRAMME WILL BE ALLOWED OR ACCEPTED. SELECTION DECISIONS ARE FINAL.

HOWEVER, you can apply now for the 2024 academic year.

 

UWC Application Requirement 

  • Applicants must have a valid email address in order to apply online. All communication from the University in regards to your application will be sent via email. Should you not have a valid email address you can create an email account using Gmail, Yahoo Mail or any other email provider you may prefer.
  • If you are a person with a disability, please ensure that you have completed that section fully in the online form to allow us to make contact with you regarding your support needs.     Applicants who have applied for study at UWC and who then wish to apply for UWC RESIDENCE must  apply online, click here to apply for UWC Residence.

Selection will only be done from those applicants who are made offers of study by the University based on placement criteria and availability of space (not all applicants who have been made an offer to study can be accommodated). Post-Matric Learners

If you have written the NSC examination already, you need to submit the following:

  • Certified copy of your NSC certificate or Senior Certificate
  • Certified copy of your identification document
  • Proof of any studies with academic records, if applicable, you may have completed
  • If applicable, proof that you are currently improving your NSC results
  • In an affidavit a brief description of activities post-matric/NSC

Applicants who are re-writing Grade 12 subjects, applications will be processed on the current grade 12 results. If Grade 12 has been written more than once then your combined results must be submitted with your application.

Transfer Students

If you are applying from another institution of higher learning you need to submit certifies copies of the following:

  • NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
  • Identification document
  • Certificate of good conduct from your institution
  • Official Academic Transcript
  • Module content / Yearbook descriptor from your institution for all modules completed
  • Degree certificate (if applicable)

Students applying for readmission to UWC

If you have studied at UWC previously and have taken a break in study, you need to provide a letter of motivation to be considered for readmission to your respective faculty

International Students

  • You need to submit your final school results to Universities South Africa (USAf) for an evaluation
  • Application for Exemption is to be done with Universities South Africa (USAf) formerly Higher Education south Africa (HESA) using the following link: https://mbit-application.usaf.ac.za/assessment/
  • We unfortunately will not be able to respond to your application until you submit a confirmation letter issued by USAf stating that you qualify to study at a South African University
  • Certified copy of your passport

Post Graduate students

  • Certified copy of identification document
  • Certified copy of Passport (International Applicants only)
  • Official Academic Transcripts/record of results  (All applicants)
  • Certified copies of degree certificates (All applicants)
  • SAQA Evaluation Certificate (International Applicants only)
  • Short Curriculum Vitae (CV) (All applicants)
  • One page letter of motivation (All applicants)

 

 

UWC Application Fee

You will be emailed a confirmation letter once you have completed the online application (within 24-48 hours), with further instructions on the submission of required documentation (click here to submit documents).

Applications close on 30 September 2022, all required documents must be submitted by this date as well.

How to Apply online to UWC

The University of the Western Cape welcomes potential students to fill out an application for the class of 2024. Prospectus applicants may now submit an application to the University of the Western Cape.

For the academic year 2024, UWC advises prospective students to submit their applications early via the online application form (Hard-Copy).

In order to apply University of the Western Cape Online Application, you will need the followings:

  • A working email address
  • your South African identity number
  • If you are an international applicant, your passport number

how to apply for the University of Western Cape

  • Go to – https://www.uwc.ac.za/
  • Proof of payment of your registration fee(compulsory for SA and International applicants)
    Certified copy of your ID document(ID document compulsory for SA citizens – your application cannot be processed without a certified copy of your ID and Passport Number for International Applicants
  • Exam Results: Final Grade 12 results (if available). Grade 11 results (if currently doing grade 12) are very important for your application. Thus, have it on hand.
  • Remember you will need a unique email address when applying either online or in a hard copy.

If you are unable to apply online, you may submit a paper application by printing the forms from the links below and sending them to the Admissions Office at the address indicated on the right.

 

UWC Application form
