About University of Stellenbosch Accommodation 2023-2024
The University of Stellenbosch in South Africa offers a variety of on-campus accommodation options for students. These include residence halls, apartments, and houses. Here are some of the details about the different types of accommodation available:
- Residence Halls: There are a total of 24 residence halls on campus, each with its own unique character and culture. The halls are divided into male and female residences and offer single, shared, and en-suite rooms. The residence halls are equipped with communal kitchens, laundry facilities, study areas, and common rooms.
- Apartments: The University also offers apartment-style accommodation, which is ideal for students who prefer more independence and privacy. The apartments are fully furnished and equipped with a kitchen, living area, bathroom, and one or two bedrooms. The apartments are available for single or shared occupancy.
- Houses: The University has a limited number of houses available for rent to postgraduate students or students with families. The houses are fully furnished and equipped with a kitchen, living area, bathroom, and two to three bedrooms.
The University of Stellenbosch also offers a variety of facilities and services to students living on campus, including 24-hour security, internet access, and cleaning services. Each residence hall has a house committee responsible for organizing social events and activities for the residents.
A Residential Head is in charge of keeping an eye on the students housed in any of these dormitories. A house committee additionally provides assistance to the residential head. Also, there are mentors in each residence. In order to help incoming students acclimatize to university life, senior students are appointed as mentors in dorms and Private Student Organizations (students who live privately). A mentor should be available to every new student. With general aid for questions about university life and psychosocial support, the mentor already plays a significant role during the introductory phase. The university's wellness program, which strives to improve students' overall wellness throughout the year, is accessible to incoming students through their mentor.
Approximately 31 university dormitories and other university housing on the Stellenbosch Campus can house up to 6 500 students at Stellenbosch University. Another 1000 students are housed in the five houses on the Tygerberg Campus, which is where the Faculty of Health Sciences is located. The majority of Maties living on these two campuses—which together house more than 30 000 students—use private housing in Stellenbosch and its surrounding areas.
