The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) gives social relief of distress (SRD) grants to individuals or families experiencing financial distress due to an unforeseen event. The SRD grant is a temporary measure designed to provide immediate relief to those in need. SASSA has recently announced a new application process for the SRD grant.
Social aid is available from the South African government to those in need, with the SASSA regulating social donations in the country. Those at risk of hunger or seeking government assistance to improve their standard of living may qualify for social grants, which are most commonly awarded to elderly individuals, those with disabilities, and others in need. To be eligible for a social grant, one must be a South African citizen, a legally admitted permanent resident, or refugee, and a citizen of South Africa.
A “means test” is applied to determine eligibility for many social benefits, including child support, disability aid, caregiver support, and relief from social misery. SASSA assesses income and assets using the means test to determine eligibility for a social grant, which is intended for those who cannot afford to live independently.
How to Check a Sassa SRD Application's Status
If applicants haven't heard anything about their submitted application, they can check its status down below. Please adhere to the following recommendations:
- The SASSA SRD grant's homepage can be found here.
- Go to the section labeled “Application Status.”
- Choose “Click this link to check online.”
- Complete the required information.
- Your R350 grant application should now be able to be seen in its current state.
