Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) lower the barriers to education. They have no entry requirements and can be done by anyone, anywhere who has access to the internet.
There are many MOOC platforms. These free courses are not credit-bearing, formal degree courses, but some offer certificates of participation or attainment. Some platforms charge a fee for certificates.
Since 2015 UCT has partnered with two MOOCs: US-based Coursera and UK-based Future Learn. Through these partnerships, UCT has specially developed numerous exceptional courses and specializations.
UCT also has agreements with certain MOOCs, giving UCT staff and students special access to the platforms. These include LinkedIn Learning, the Kahn Academy, and the SUSE Academic program. UCT’s Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) self-training section can link you to these and more.
