The University of Pretoria offers a range of accommodation options for students, including university residences, university-managed apartments, and private off-campus housing.

The Department of Residence Affairs and Accommodation, fondly referred to as the TuksRes Family, is a stand-alone business unit, with various management teams serving residence students.

With close to 10 000 students in our accommodation spaces, the University of Pretoria is proud to be known as the largest residential university in South Africa.

By having a broad structure like TuksRes, one is able to manage the various needs of our student sector living in a residence.

University residences are available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and they offer a variety of options to suit different needs and preferences. Some residences are single-sex, while others are mixed. There are also residences that cater to specific academic disciplines, such as law or engineering.

On the University of Pretoria's Hatfield Campus, we host 8 female undergraduate residences, 6 male undergraduate residences, 1 mixed undergraduate residence and 4 mixed postgraduate residences.

OP Village provides housing to undergraduate and postgraduate students and boasts a unique campus, while also being the largest student residence of the University of Pretoria. No other student residence in the country has students who can fall asleep to the bellows of bulls in their backyard!

PLEASE NOTE

It is preferable that students who choose their study course on a particular campus, select a residence on that campus, e.g. Education students select a residence on the Groenkloof Campus.

  • Post-graduate residences are only located on the Hatfield Campus.

University-managed apartments are another accommodation option available to students. These apartments are generally located close to the university campus and offer more privacy and independence than the university residences.

In addition to these on-campus accommodation options, students can also choose to live in private off-campus housing, such as shared apartments or houses. The university provides a database of off-campus accommodation options, and students can use this to find suitable housing.

The cost of accommodation at the University of Pretoria varies depending on the type of accommodation and location. It is important to note that demand for on-campus accommodation is high, and students are advised to apply for accommodation as early as possible.
