Performs a range of tasks related to the installation, calibration, repair, and maintenance of electrical, electronic, and mechanical biomedical equipment while under indirect supervision, according to manufacturer's instructions and established preventative maintenance practices; records all work; maintains confidentiality, safeguards organizational assets, demonstrates ethics and integrity, complies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies, and procedures; and supports compliance and the principles of responsibility. reports noncompliance problems and/or fixes them.

Essential Functions:
• Diagnoses, fixes, and ensures proper operation of the biomedical, laboratory, and associated systems in accordance with manufacturer's requirements as necessary or assigned; updates the client on the status of the equipment maintenance; accurately and promptly records the actions conducted.
• Regularly carries out preventative maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and equipment calibration in compliance with JCAHO, CAP, AABB, NFPA99, and manufacturer's standards, as necessary or assigned; Notifies the customer of the equipment's final condition and any faults; accurately and promptly document the actions done.
• As necessary/as assigned, receives new equipment; conducts acceptance checks in accordance with manufacturer's specifications; delivers and/or installs equipment to the department; informally instructs customer(s) on proper operation and any potential hazards or safety issues; ensures receipt of operations and technical service manuals, and accurately and promptly records actions taken.
• As necessary/assigned, Ensures that updates, alterations, and/or health device alerts are properly handled and resolved to improve patient/staff safety or equipment performance; orders and installs necessary hardware as applicable; and accurately and promptly documents actions/resolutions performed.
• Works together with clients, manufacturer representatives, and others to ensure prompt delivery and installation of biomedical systems or equipment.
• Offers resources to customers; collaborates with outside resources as necessary; comprehends and conveys to customers the clinical value, use, and technology of equipment; and ensures that user in-service training is offered upon request.
• Attends AAMI meetings, service schools, and seminars relating to the position.
• Documents all in-service and cross-training given to other biomedical staff members.
• Coordinates the troubleshooting and repair of machinery with scant or no technical documentation.
• Evaluates the implications of safety control measures (such as ECRI alerts, infection control, MSDS and chemical control, fire safety, and JCAHO-related programs); suitable action is taken; activity with a follow-up to ensure completion.
• Completes nitrous oxide scanning in accordance with plans and requests.
• Maintains the integrity and calibration of test equipment on a regular basis; documents PMs in accordance with specified schedules and criteria; updates the lead on the general state of PMs, issues, and worries.
• On demand, offers technical assistance or advice to departments outside of biomedical engineering (such as maintenance, radiology, and telecommunications).
• Exhibits adequate expertise, abilities, and knowledge in the specialty.
• Exhibits the knowledge, talents, and skills required to deliver care and/or services that are sensitive to cultural differences.
• Complies with and keeps up-to-date on all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, standards for accreditation and licensing, and policies.

Basic requirements:
Experience:
BMET experience of at least two (2) years.
Education:
Two (2) years of experience in a sector that is directly relevant OR an associate's degree in biomedical or general electronics
– Completion of formal anatomy and physiology training.
Required: General Education Development (GED) or High School Diploma.
Registration, Certification, and Licensing
– A current driver's license
– The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation's Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) designation (AAMI). Additional Conditions:
– Proven technical competence to maintain BMET-required equipment levels.
– Proven understanding and competency in the following areas: interpersonal interactions, teamwork, customer service, problem-solving, flexibility, and change management.
– Speaking on the phone, on the job, with coworkers, clients, and outside vendors.
– The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. – Instructions and training given and received. – Mathematical prowess and meticulousness
(such as planning, setting priorities, and proofreading), focus, and awareness. – Must be able to function in a partnership between labor and management.
The following PC application(s) knowledge and/or skills are preferred: word processing, spreadsheet, and database.
