Job Summary:
To collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other clinical personnel to offer Kaiser Permanente members thorough, high-quality medical care.

Significant Duties:

helps the doctor provide thorough medical care to a specific patient population in an outpatient clinic environment by:

Getting ready the patient for the examination by a doctor.

carrying out screening procedures that are suitable for the patient population.

completing the prescribed clinical procedures and/or activities.

helping to arrange follow-up appointments and activities per the doctor's advice.

under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician, carries out clinical duties and/or procedures that are appropriate for the specific patient population.

Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, carries out clinical duties and/or procedures that are appropriate for the patient population being served.

Notifies a doctor or other qualified health care practitioner right away if a patient is seen to be in trouble.

records all treatment provided and actions performed on the patient's behalf in KP HealthConnect.

helps the clinical department run smoothly and effectively by keeping an eye on patient flow and taking appropriate action to reduce wait times and improve the patient experience.

Helps with inventory and ordering necessary supplies; always has enough supplies in the exam and procedure rooms.

maintains a constant cheerful attitude when interacting with Kaiser Permanente patients, guests, and coworkers.

does other tasks as directed.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience as a nursing/medical assistant OR relevant experience OR successful completion of a Kaiser Permanente externship.
  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support required at hire
Additional Requirements:
  • Completion of all Kaiser Permanente Clinical Assistant required competencies within the first sixty (60) days of employment, and annually thereafter.
  • External applicants and all internal applicants that did not go through KPMAS CA Skills Maximization and Standardization Program will be required to complete an internal Kaiser medication course and required to complete all medication competencies within the first one hundred eighty (180) days of employment, and annually thereafter.
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Effective communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in administering medications and/or have completed medication administration education.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current National Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Familiarity in documenting in an electronic medical record system.
