Description:

The Internal Medicine clerk is in charge of computer data processing and reports preparation under the direction of department administrators, including data entry, sorting, compilation, printing, and distribution of reports. This position manages extensive, networked patient databases that assist doctors, NPs/PAs, and/or RN care coordinators in their clinical interventions. Before final approval by licensed professionals, daily duties may include initial assessment and revision of algorithm-based computer screening judgments. Additionally, the clerk keeps in touch with patients by making appointments, giving directions for follow-up, and screening communications for medical professionals.

Significant Duties:

Enter data into a computer system using patient questionnaires, lab results, communications, provider visit forms, and other sources.

Perform data searches and produce reports in accordance with the planned timetable and protocols.

Letters and information packets for patients are printed and mailed.

Contact patients in a follow-up call regarding the completion of lab work, the return of questionnaires, and the scheduling of appointments suggested by the patient's doctor, care coordinator, or care manager.

Respond to patient phone calls and direct them to the proper provider, care manager, or care coordinator.

As assigned, call the pharmacy for refills.

Then enter the lab results into the department-specific computer tracking systems.

Keep computer, office, and medical supplies at specified care sites at predetermined levels of inventory.

Follow the provider's, an RN care coordinator's, or a case manager's instructions when making changes to patient data fields in a computer application.

Create statistical reports on the administrator's request.

Before receiving final approval from authorized employees, review algorithm-based computer screening judgments and make any necessary adjustments.

Charts from medical records can be ordered as needed or at the provider's request.

Carries out additional tasks as needed.

 

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Medical Terminology or equivalent experience is required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with PC and/or MAC compatible computer required.
  • Experience with OPAS, KPDS, LMS, and REMls is required.
  • Multi-line telephone experience is required.

  • Experience with Internal Medicine computer patient management programs preferred.

 

Notes:

Although Escondido is the position's home clinic, it may float to other Primary Care locations as needed by operations.
The start times for this 8-hour shift range from 6:00 am to 10:00 am.
