JOB DESCRIPTION:

To plan and oversee patient care in the designated clinical area. Wound care certification for surgical specialty departments is necessary for this post.

Significant Duties:

  • In the designated clinical area, administers all oral and injectable drugs. Ensures that all narcotics and drug supplies are available in the designated clinical area and ensures that all controlled substances are securely stored in accordance with KP standards and any relevant regulatory requirements. initiates and oversees the administration of IV treatment during therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintains operational emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies. Responds to emergencies throughout the medical facility. Reports the emergency situation to the supervisor.
  • Coordination, implementation, and evaluation of patient education plans for surgery, wound care, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulant therapy, therapeutic diet instruction, weight control, and other areas as assigned.
  • As needed, sets up, performs, and/or assists with procedures. Provides wound care in accordance with the provider team's treatment plan orders.
  • Coordinates post-sedation recovery care for patients. Ensures that all compromised patients receiving care are subjected to safety precautions.
  • Walk-in patients are triaged as needed or assigned.
  • Manages the delivery system's workflow, such as assisting team members in identifying the best methods for the care system.
  • Serves as a resource for LPNs and Clinic Assistants.
  • Acts as a patient advocate and problem solver within HCT. If an issue is not resolved within the team, it is brought to the attention of the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Collaboration with a physician to aid in care coordination through message management. Provide phone triage, care advice, and appointment scheduling as needed, as well as assistance with patient requests.
  • Other related duties are assigned as needed.

Basic requirements:

Experience:

  • A least one (1) year of current experience HMO or ambulatory setting is required.
  • Experience in IV Therapy is required.

Education:

  • License, Certification, and Registration: None
  • Credentials from several states are required for this position. Before being hired, credentials from the major employment state are required. After hiring, additional credentials from the secondary work state(s) are needed.
  • Virginia Registered Nurse License within six months of employment AND Maryland Registered Nurse License within six months of employment OR
  • Within six months of hire, a registered nurse with a compact license
  • Within six months of employment, a District of Columbia registered nurse license
  • First Aid/Life Support

Additional Requirements:

  • IV Therapy experience is necessary.
  • Knowledge about how to use the relevant software.
  • Preferable qualifications include prior expertise in surgery or wound care.
  • It's best to have B.S.N.
