Verifies insurance eligibility while working under indirect supervision, speaks with patients or their representatives to gather financial and demographic data, and collects admission-related data. explains hospital policies and procedures and helps patients fill out necessary papers. They also upload data into a computer system and distribute paperwork to the right departments. collects patient drugs, gives patient information, collects deposits, gathers and distributes valuables, and allocates patient rooms.

 

Essential Purposes:

Maintains KP’s policies and procedures, the principles of responsibilities, and all relevant local, state, and federal laws.

– Makes the appropriate pre-admission arrangements, including gathering information and arranging diagnostic paperwork, records, and doctor’s orders before the patient is admitted; when needed, follows up on late reports.

– Ascertains authorizations and pre-certifications and confirms insurance eligibility.

– Evaluates patients and refers them to the proper departments.

– Conducts interviews with new patients or their representatives to gather the relevant data and signatures, and to explain hospital rules and procedures.

– Compiles/notifies patients/representatives of required deposits/co-payments.

– Fills out the appropriate admittance paperwork and makes patient wristbands.

– Based on diagnosis and available accommodations assigns beds in collaboration with nursing.

– Maintains allocated and vacant bed tracking systems (nights and weekends).

– Assists with communication and the preparation of the appropriate paperwork for patient transfers to/from other facilities.

– Arranges for the escorting of patients to the designated room or area.

– Notifies nursing stations of any specific care instructions from doctors, such as the need for bed traction devices, bed boards, etc.

– Follows directions from an outside facility regarding particular bed/equipment needs.

– Produces and distributes daily updates on the census.

– Alerts the doctor when the patient arrives.

– Handles the medicine of the patient upon admission.

– Protects and releases patients’ valuables.

– Carries out proper decedent affairs duties.

– Offers information to patients.

– Carries out duties related to quality control in support of defined desk quality program.

– KP SERVICE Requirements: Adheres to the LMP ABCs’ listed service standards.

Specifically, exercise initiative, responsibility, care, and pride.

– Show compliance in each of the aforementioned four (4) areas.

Examples include making a good first impression, preserving patient privacy and confidentiality, taking responsibility, resolving disputes amicably, treating others with respect, and supporting your team.

Basic Qualifications:

One (1) year of general office or medical office experience.

• One (1) year of hospital admitting experience preferred.

• Cash collection experience preferred.

• CRT experience preferred.

• Typing 30 WPM.

• Knowledge of Medical Terminology and must be able to pass a standardized test.

• Must have good verbal and communication skills.

• Ability to work rapidly and accurately with phone, personnel and patient interruptions.

• Proficient in Medical Terminology- ability to pass a standardized test.

• Ability to demonstrate good mathematical skills preferred.

• Must read, write and speak English fluently, bilingual preferred.

 

Note:

  • May be required to work different locations/hours/shifts based on operational needs (AC Shift 4).

  • Scheduled work hours per week will be 20-32.
