To apply for an SRD grant through GovChat, follow these steps:

  • Open the GovChat platform on your mobile device or computer. GovChat is available on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and the GovChat website.
  • If you are using WhatsApp, add the GovChat contact number +27600123456 to your contacts.
  • Once you have the GovChat contact saved, send them a message saying “Hi” or “Hello” to begin the process.
  • You will then receive a message with a list of services available on GovChat. Type “SRD grant” to proceed with the application.
  • Next, you will be prompted to provide your personal information, including your name, surname, ID number, and contact details. Ensure that you have this information on hand before beginning the application process.
  • You will also be asked to provide details about your income, household composition, and employment status.
  • Once you have completed the application form, you will be asked to confirm that the information you provided is correct. If everything is accurate, submit your application.
  • You will receive a confirmation message from GovChat indicating that your application has been received. You can also check the status of your application through GovChat at any time.

It is important to note that GovChat is just one method of submitting an SRD grant application. Applicants can also apply through the SASSA website or via WhatsApp, as outlined in previous conversations. Make sure to have all the required documents and information on hand before beginning the application process to ensure a smooth and efficient submission.

To ensure the accuracy of the information provided by applicants, SASSA will collaborate with other institutions to verify the information, and thus, all applicants will be required to sign a statement and consent form.

To check the progress of your R350 grant application, you must perform an SASSA grant status check. For more information on how to do this, visit this link.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive payment, and there is no need to reapply every month as SASSA will regularly assess whether you still qualify for the grant.

If your SRD grant application is rejected by SASSA, and you believe that it was unfairly rejected, you can appeal the decision.
