About NWU Accommodation 2023-2024

The North-West University (NWU) has several accommodation options for students.NWU has 9 male residences and 11 female residences.

Each of the residences has rooms that are equipped with a bed, mattress, blinds, desk, heater, built-in cupboard, and noticeboard. You need to provide your own bedding.

Students in res have access to facilities like computer rooms, TVs in the recreation rooms, and laundry facilities (washing machines, tumble driers, iron boards).

The various ladies' and men’s residences on campus are all situated within walking distance from the academic and administrative buildings. The campus offers twelve residences of which five are situated within the grounds of the Campus and five are situated in the Vanderbijlpark area. The two-day residences are for day students, staying at home but traveling to campus each day.

Each residence is managed by a house parent together with a house committee. All the residences are self-catering; however, students can also make use of the cafeteria on campus.

  1. On-Campus Accommodation: NWU offers on-campus accommodation at all three of its campuses, namely Mahikeng, Potchefstroom, and Vanderbijlpark. The accommodation options include residences, apartments, and flats. Each residence has a warden and student leadership who ensure that students live in a safe and supportive environment. The residences are equipped with a communal kitchen, laundry facilities, and recreational areas. The costs of on-campus accommodation vary depending on the type of accommodation and campus.
  2. Off-Campus Accommodation: NWU does not have any off-campus accommodation options, but there are private accommodation providers in the surrounding areas. The university provides a database of accredited private accommodation providers for students to access. These providers offer a range of accommodation options, from apartments to shared houses.
  3. Application Process: Students who wish to apply for on-campus accommodation must do so through the NWU student portal. The application process is straightforward and requires students to complete an online application form and pay a non-refundable application fee. The allocation of accommodation is done based on a first-come, first-served basis, and the availability of spaces.
  4. Amenities: NWU accommodation provides students with access to essential amenities such as Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and communal kitchens. The university residences also have recreational areas such as TV rooms, swimming pools, and sports facilities.
