As of April 2023, the South African government has discontinued the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, which provided a monthly payment of R350 to eligible South Africans who were struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, there is currently no online application process for the R350 grant.
However, when the SRD grant was available, eligible individuals could apply for the grant online through the SASSA website or via the WhatsApp messaging service. The online application process involved the following steps:
- Visit the SASSA website or send a WhatsApp message to the SASSA WhatsApp line.
- Provide personal information, including name, ID number, and contact details.
- Provide income details, including monthly income and expenses.
- Provide bank account details or select a SASSA-approved payment method.
- Submit supporting documents, which may include ID documents, proof of income, and proof of residence.
Once an application was submitted, it was reviewed by SASSA, and if approved, the grant was paid out to the eligible individual on a monthly basis.
It is important to note that since the discontinuation of the SRD grant, there is no R350 grant available, and the government has not announced any plans to reintroduce the grant or any similar forms of financial assistance. However, eligible individuals can still apply for other social assistance programs offered by SASSA.
