relief grant sassa 2023-2024
The South African government provides social assistance to those in need through SASSA. Eligible individuals who would otherwise live in poverty can receive social grants, with elderly individuals, those with disabilities, and children often being recipients. To qualify for a social grant, applicants must be South African citizens, legally admitted permanent residents, or refugees.
Many social grants, such as child support, disability, care dependency, and the relief of social distress, require a means test to determine eligibility based on income and assets. The means test is used to assess the applicant's ability to live independently.
Parents of disabled children who are employed may be eligible for the Care Dependency Grant. The amount of money that can be received as part of this grant will depend on various factors.
- Applicants who have submitted an application for the SASSA SRD grant can check the status of their application on the SASSA website. To do so, they should visit the homepage and go to the “Application Status” section, click “Click here to check online,” and fill out the required information. Applicants can also learn more about their application progress by clicking on “My Application Status.”
