Significant Duties:
the patient in the appropriate position as directed by the surgeon.
uses both common and specialized equipment to help place the patient.
enables the surgeon to see the surgical site properly by using tools like retractors, sponges, digital manipulation, and other methods in accordance with standards.
employs the proper technique to help the surgeon achieve either temporary or permanent hemostasis by aiding in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical tasks that will enable the surgeon to do the procedure safely and with the best possible outcomes for the patient.
performs tasks as a surgical technician in the ambulatory surgery facility for all surgical specialties.
uses the right methods, such as sutures and staples, to help close body planes.
chooses and uses the proper wound dressings.
aids in moving patients from a gurney to a bed during transportation to and from the operating room.
monitoring the quality of care in accordance with set standards and professional guidelines.
carries out any more related tasks as directed.

- Internal candidates: Minimum five (5) years of documented experience as a certified surgical technician is required.
- External candidates: Minimum three (3) years of continuous, documented experience as a certified surgical assistant in the role of 1st assistant.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

Certification credentialed by one of the following is required:

The National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting -Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).

Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST) – Certified Surgical Technologist/Certified First Assistant (CST/CFA) credential.

National Surgical Assistant Association – Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA).
-
American Board of Surgical Assistants – Surgical Assistant – Certified (SA-C).

BLS certification required.
