At Indiana University Bloomington, we have a regular decision deadline of February 1 and an early action deadline (non-binding) of November 1.
What do the terms “non-binding” and “early action” mean?
You will learn more quickly if you apply by the early action date and are accepted. Even if you are accepted, you are not obligated to choose to attend IU Bloomington, which is what “non-binding” means.
When should I apply?
Apply by the early action (non-binding) deadline of November 1 to receive the most scholarship consideration.
To be eligible for the early action (non-binding) deadline, you must submit a complete application for admission by November 1 that includes your official transcript, IU-specific essay, and SAT/ACT (if applicable*). The deadline for electronic submissions is November 1 while the deadline for hard copy submissions is November 1.
If you submit your updated SAT and/or ACT results by January 15 for further scholarship consideration, provided that you fulfill the November 1 deadline.
After February 1, applications will only be accepted on a space-available basis.

- If you’re applying for the fall semester, submit a complete application (including all supporting documents) by June 1.
- If you’re applying for the spring semester, submit a complete application (including all supporting documents) by November 1.

We pay close attention to your grade point average (GPA), most recent term GPA, and the breadth and depth of your prior academic experience. It's also critical that you've kept up strong relations with your previous employer.
Cumulative grade point average (GPA)
- Indiana residents should have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.3 on a 4.0-point scale before applying to IU Bloomington.
- Nonresidents should have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Because of the competitive nature of our applicant pool, few transfers are admitted with a GPA below those listed above.
