Admission requirement for a (3 years full-time study)

Physics and Mathematics courses are required for this study program. The physics coursework includes a wide range of topics, including nuclear physics, electricity, optics, semiconductors, relativity, solid-state physics, and relativistic atomic physics.
The course's lab work is a crucial component since it teaches students measuring procedures, how to utilize lab tools, how to gather and analyze data, and how to employ scientific methods. It is advised to incorporate optional courses like Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Chemistry.

Students have the option to enroll in optional physics project courses during their third year of study, which exposes them to various ways for tackling problems that are current and pertinent to the area of physics. These are suggested for students who want to have hands-on, integrated experience with physics' real-world applications.

Minimum admission requirements:

• National Senior Certificate (NSC)
• Mathematics: 5 (C Symbol: 60%-69%) (Note that Mathematical Literacy will not be accepted)
• Physical Science: 5 (C Symbol: 60%-69%)
• English or Afrikaans: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%)
• Life Orientation: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%) (Excluded when calculating the APS)
• Two other subjects: 4 (D Symbol: 50%-59%)
• An Admission Points Score (APS) of 32
• Admission test

Candidates who do not comply with these entrance requirements may write the admissions test to be considered for possible admission to the BSc Four-year Programme by the Admissions Committee.

Admission requirement for a (4 years full-time study)

By establishing less stringent entry standards than those for BSc Three Year programs, the new BSc Four-year Programme opens up access to scientific and science-based degree programs. In order to prepare students for continued study in the regular science and science-based degree programs, it provides intense instruction. This implies that students who enroll in this program will receive the exact same results as those in the current BSc/degree programs. Every grade 12 candidate has access to the program. Just a select few students are permitted to enroll in the Extended Programme.

In both the Hatfield and Mamelodi campuses, the program is available in English. Depending on the availability of facilities, the Hatfield or Mamelodi campuses will host successful candidates.

The initial phase of the curriculum lasts for 18 months (3 semesters). Students who successfully complete the program will have earned credits comparable to Year 1 Semester 1 of the Three Year Programme and may register for the Three Year Programme's Year 1 Semester 2 modules. For the benefit of the students, the extended courses also include enrichment activities like lab work, computer-assisted learning, seminars, and small-group tutorials.

Mathematical sciences, biological and agricultural sciences, veterinary biology, and physical sciences are the four streams that make up the program. Those interested in engineering should apply to the Physical Science stream, while those interested in a health-related field should apply to the Biological Sciences stream.

Transferring from one stream in the BSc Four Year Programme to another is possible at the end of the first semester.

• Physical Science 4 (50%-59%) or 3 (40%-49%) only if a 4 was obtained for Mathematics.

• Life Orientation: 4 (50%-59%) (Excluded when calculating the APS)
• Two other subjects: 4 (50%-59%)
• An Admission Points Score (APS) of at least 22
• Admissions test

Please note that these results do not automatically admit students to the Extended Programme instead of the normal BSc programs for which the candidates do not meet the requirements. A further selection is based on the results of the admission test, which applicants are required to take.
