Essential Purposes
• Takes the patient's case history and reviews any accessible medical records before performing a complete examination of patients with a variety of visual issues.
• Checks the patient's eyes and other structures for any signs of pathology
• Examines the patient's visual functioning utilizing the complete range of optometric tools & methods.
• Recognizes visual impairments and issues corrective lenses
• Writes prescriptions and fits contacts
• Determining the partially sighted person's visual needs
• Writes prescriptions for low-vision aids such magnifiers, telescopic and microscopic lenses, and other optical devices to help those with limited vision
• Writes prescriptions and fits contacts

• Examines people who have eye emergencies.
• Writes prescriptions for drugs as necessary
• When necessary, refers patients with signs of potential eye pathology to an ophthalmologist.
• Refers patients to further qualified KP providers as necessary for additional evaluation and necessary care.
• Takes part in departmental meetings and educational events, such as peer reviews conducted within the department and medical facility.
• Accountable for continuously demonstrating service behaviors & values described by the KP Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission, as well as specific departmental/organizational efforts, in addition to established technical needs.
• Accountable for constantly displaying the knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes required to deliver excellent service while taking into account cultural differences to one another, to members, and to customers, vendors, and contracted providers.
