Job Summary:

The Senior Physician Assistant has a high level of clinical and administrative knowledge and may serve as a mentor to Physician Assistants with less experience.
The supervising doctor, manager, and other department members may work together on performance improvement initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities:

Troubleshoots and repairs biomedical and laboratory equipment and related systems; ensures correct operation; troubleshoots and coordinates repair of equipment that has little or no technical documentation.

Performs preventative maintenance, electrical safety checks, and equipment calibration on a routine basis in accordance with JCAHO, CAP, AABB, NFPA99, and other related regulations.

After achieving AAMI Certification, the Biomedical Engineering Manager may decide to focus more attention on performing and supervising the maintenance standards of higher acuity, high-risk, and life support categories of medical equipment. In order to independently repair, maintain, and document this type of equipment in accordance with manufacturer requirements, it is important to complete specialized technical training and become familiar with the particular tools and resources required.

Delivers and/or installs new equipment in the department, performs acceptance tests, trains customers on appropriate usage and any potential safety or hazardous issues, and ensures that operations and technical service manuals are received.

Orders and installs hardware as necessary; makes sure upgrades, alterations, and/or health device alarms are correctly handled and resolved to improve patient/staff safety or equipment performance.

Provides customers with up-to-date equipment status information; accurately and promptly records activities; and carries out all repairs, maintenance, and inspections in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.

Customers are given resources; when necessary, liaisons are established with outside resources; customers are informed about the therapeutic value, application, and technology of equipment, and user in-service training is ensured to be provided.

Attends job-related seminars, service schools, and AAMI meetings. Offers cross- and in-service training to other biomedical personnel.

evaluates the effects on safety controls, acts appropriately, and then follows up to guarantee closure.

scans for nitrous oxide when necessary.

Ensures that preventative maintenance is completed and documented on time. On a regular basis, ensures the integrity and calibration of test equipment. Informs supervisor of the general state of preventative maintenance, problems, and concerns.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Minimum one (1) years experience as a Junior Biomedical Equipment Technician OR successful completion of the on-the-job training program.
  • Must have achieved the AAMI Certification for Biomedical Equipment Technician.
Education
  • Associate degree in biomedical or general electronics; or two (2) years of experience in a directly related field. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required. Post-high school coursework in anatomy and physiology.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Driver's License (Hawaii)
  • Biomedical Equipment Technician Certificate (AAMI)

 

Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency to service levels of equipment required by Junior Biomedical Equipment Technician.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, change management, decision-making, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem-solving, project management, quality management, results in orientation, teamwork, and written communication.
  • Communication and Mental Requirements
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in PC applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database.
