Description:
Transports patients, lab specimens, medical supplies, and equipment inside the in-patient units while working under indirect supervision. They also construct and maintain necessary equipment and carry out associated tasks.

Essential Purposes

– Delivers patients by helping or carrying people into gurneys or onto wheelchairs, and transports patients to prearranged appointments within the parameters of acceptable timing and safety measures.

– As needed, gathers and delivers medical supplies, lab samples, equipment, and Central Processing materials.

By calming patients and outlining the goal of the transfer, the employee establishes and maintains polite, cooperative relationships with patients.

– Replaces empty oxygen tanks, inspects departmental gurneys, wheelchairs, and oxygen carriers, and checks oxygen tanks for leaks and the amount of oxygen in the tank.

– Assists doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals with the care or treatment of patients as necessary.

– Completes additional related tasks as required or instructed by the department manager and/or seniors.

– Prepares and transports patients to their destination in a timely, safe, and effective way, demonstrating the highest standards of competency in the provision of care.

– Exhibits proficiency with all medical equipment utilized in patient transportation

– Exhibits proficiency with the Automated Dispatch System (VIP, Patient Tracking System)

– Constantly establishes priorities based on the most urgent demands

– Assures that the patient is ready for transportation in compliance with the safety standards stated in the department's policy.

– Identifies and explains improper orders

– Consistently takes regular and extra measures based on the patient's age, medical history, condition, and type of treatment.

– Phones the VIP to get assignments

– Obtains the patient's name, room number, destination, isolation precautions, mode of transportation, and necessary equipment prior to dispatch.

– Clearly, concisely, and accurately records all requests and specific instructions on trip cards in a timely way.

– Adheres to all departmental, regional, and medical center policies that are relevant.

– Retains certification in CPR, BLS for Healthcare Providers, or a comparable program.

– Remains up to date on fire and safety laws and procedures

– Adheres to the guidelines for Infectious Waste and Universal Body Substance Precautions.

– Completes a current annual health screening and keeps it up to date (PPD)

– Assists in the training and orientation of other staff members.

– Responsible for attending staff meetings and in-service seminars and checking the minutes for accuracy.

– Adheres to the standards of professional conduct outlined in the Kaiser Permanente Quality of Service to improve the quality of services. A basic philosophy of professionalism and care for patients, members, and workers

– Notifies passengers of the origin and destination. cause of any delays or expected delays.

– Adheres to the Patient's Bill of Rights in treating every patient.

– Within the allotted work hours, adapt to changes in workload.

– Checks that all necessary equipment is in good working order and is transport-safe.

– Maintains medical equipment used to transport patients by cleaning and operating it.

– Identifies team members' learning requirements and offers coaching to improve staff effectiveness.

– Provides managers with quick, detailed feedback after accurately identifying employees' strengths and areas in need of growth

Basic Qualifications:
• At least six (6) months of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Hospital Aide in an acute care setting or equivalent OR completion of one (1) academic year in an accredited nursing program that includes clinical experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Maintains current CPR certification
• Heavy Physical demands• Frequent pulling, pushing, and lifting of supplies and equipment
• Occasional assistance in positioning of patients
• Walking and standing most of the time on duty
• Standard Medical equipment and equipment used in transporting patients

  • May be required to work different locations/hours/shifts based on operational needs
  • Scheduled work hours per week will be 20-32.
