Essential Duties:
- Ensures test accuracy by preparing and calibrating test apparatus and equipment.
- As outlined in the laboratory operations manual, prepares samples and carries out moderately to highly difficult laboratory tests.
- Communicates to the supervisor any unexpected or inappropriate test results.
- By entering data into a database, reports the outcomes of each test, and any associated test data.
- Develops, distributes, and files reports and forms.
- After each test, clean up the tools and apparatus as necessary.
- Gives devices and equipment a basic once-over and small repairs.
- Determines when a piece of equipment is malfunctioning and alerts the necessary personnel.
- Helps newly hired employees become familiar with laboratory practices.
- Performs other related duties as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of current experience in a clinical laboratory or in a related field is required.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
- Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology or successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) required.
- Proper documentation for the applicable degrees is required (i.e. copies of diplomas, transcripts, or International Degree Equivalency Report). The major must be clearly stated in the document. If the diploma does not indicate the major, an additional document that states the major is required.
License, Certification, Registration
- MLT (ASCP) certification from either the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) is required.

- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
