Job Summary:

oversees departments that provide patient care services around-the-clock. Makes ensuring staff members offer patients across the continuum high-quality, easily accessible, cost-effective services that abide by all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Creates and upholds clinical standards for treatment and practice; manages all resource budgeting, resource selection, and resource development.

Significant Duties:

manages the day-to-day operations of departments that may be spread over several locations. Assures Assistants and staff are adhering to federal, state, and local regulations as well as the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and providing the best possible care.

establishes, puts into practice, and upholds patient care and service standards to satisfy the needs of members and internal clients.

Processes are created and assessed to enhance systems and patient care outcomes along the continuum of care.

creates and oversees budgets to ensure the efficient use of financial and material resources. Identifies and puts into action ways to save costs and raise the standard of care or service while keeping an eye on financial success.

Establishes procedures to screen, interview, hire, train, and maintain the competency of every department employee, as well as the ideal workforce mix for the department. makes ensuring that personnel is continually developed. manages and resolves issues with risk management, employee and department safety, and human resources.

develops, implements, and keeps an eye on the departmental policies and practices that support the organization's goals and commercial objectives.

oversees and creates standards of practice and care, and directs financial management and quality-improving initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum four (4) years of clinical nursing experience related to clinical area of specialization as required by the department, including four (4) years of management, supervisory or leadership* experience.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing earned through a direct entry MSN program.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire

  • Basic Life Support

 

Additional Requirements:

  • *Leadership Experience will be permissible for Kaiser Permanente internal applicants only and is defined by the following criteria: demonstrated clinical nursing leadership as a Charge/Senior RN, participation on professional committees inclusive of UBTs, National Certification in Specialty, demonstrated completion of RN Leadership Development Program and/or demonstrated experiential exposure to Nursing Leadership.

  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other local, state, federal regulations.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • ACLS or PALS certification may be required for positions in specific department.

  • National Certification preferred within 1 year of hire

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of management experience preferred

  • One (1) year of Magnet/shared governance experience preferred

  • One (1) year of managing in a bargaining environment preferred

  • Masters degree preferred.
