Description:
The Operating Engineer, under general supervision, carries out a range of ordinary or skilled preventive maintenance tasks in the repair, alteration, and modification of structures, machinery, and facilities.
Significant Duties:
upholds the policies, procedures, and guiding principles of Kaiser Permanente as well as any relevant local, state, and federal laws.
checks that all machinery and facilities are in good functioning order and condition.
keeps regular records, ascertains the kind and severity of equipment malfunctions, and takes other appropriate actions.
performs adjustments, disassemblies, repairs, or replacements of parts or components, reassembles, and functional tests.
Report more significant issues to the Chief Engineer for guidance or maintenance planning.
may take care of heaters, hot water boilers, and steam boilers that are powered by gas.
To ensure proper steam pressure, combustion, water flow, water level, and operation of safety devices and auxiliary equipment, changes may be made as needed.
water in the boiler is tested, and chemicals are added as necessary.
Equipment for heating, cooling, and refrigeration, including fans, motors, radiators, thermostats, dampers, and regulating controls, may be serviced and repaired.
Maintains routine records of repairs and replaces filters and fluids as needed.
Various general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alterations, and repairs are carried out on machinery, equipment, or facilities as directed or in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, standard processes, and one's basic skills and talents, i.e.
Replaces or modifies circuit wire, switches, control mechanisms, motors, transformers, relays, generators, appliances, fixtures, alarms, communication equipment, etc. as part of routine electrical maintenance.
carries out routine mechanical maintenance on office and computer equipment, kitchen equipment, hospital and clinic equipment, etc.
Typically does not include specialist, highly technological x-ray and surgical equipment that calls for particular training, expertise, and resources.
performs general plumbing maintenance, including the upkeep, repair, and modification of sanitary, steam, gas, water, air, and plumbing fittings.
Pipe can be threaded, bent, chopped, reammed, and tested for leaks. Wipe joints are also used.
Clear blocked drains and fix leaks.
Cutting and connecting metals without the need for a critical test tolerance or certification is known as general welding.
performs a number of basic maintenance tasks, including cleaning and lubricating motors and other machinery, replacing fuses, fluorescent ballasts and tubes, and repairing and assembling extension cords.
Replace and repack valves, build machinery, fix drape pull mechanisms, clean sink and grease traps, and other related tasks.
carries out a variety of basic physical tasks as needed, such as moving equipment, furniture, supplies, and trash, changing light bulbs, etc.
Establishes and maintains cordial, helpful relationships with coworkers, Health Plan members, and the general public.
other corresponding tasks as needed.
Occasionally take on additional tasks and obligations as directed.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
-
Three (3) to Five (5) years with in the last year, experience in Building Plant Operations and Maintenance.
Education
-
Associate of Arts Degree in Engineering or technical disciplines in Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or equivalent.
License, Certification, Registration
-
Drivers License (in location where applicable)

Universal Chlorofluorocarbons Certificate within 6 months of hire
Additional Requirements:
-
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of equipment, controls, and building automation maintenance.

Ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematic drawings and technical manuals.
