Description:

In accordance with hospital and departmental standards of care, administers general and regional anesthesia to patients of various age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric, during all types of surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures requiring anesthesia services. This is done under the medical direction/supervision of an anesthesiologist. Airway management, fluid balance maintenance, homeostasis, monitoring, reaction to emergencies including airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and management of patients on ventilators are just a few examples of the interventions that may fall under this category.

 

Essential Purposes

– Gives anesthetic to people of various ages.
– Upholds all applicable local, state, and federal laws as well as KP's policies and procedures and principles of responsibility.
– Adheres to organizational regulations, rules, and processes (i.e., JCAHO, Title 22, Regional and Department requirements).
– Interviews and examines patients to assess them before to surgery; consults records for pertinent data.
– Based on the results of the pre-operative assessment, chooses the patient's anesthetic in agreement with the doctor.
– When providing care to patients in each age group served: newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric, demonstrates an awareness of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological growth process.
– Based on the results of the patient's pre-operative exam, chooses an anesthetic.
– Assesses how the patient responded to the pre-medication.
– Talks to the surgeon and the anesthesiologist about any unique concerns the patient may have.

– Verifies that anesthetic equipment is in safe operational condition every day and in between cases.
– Gets medications ready for administration.
– Gives anesthesia in accordance with clinical privileges that have been defined and any limits or limitations that may be attached to them.
– Keeps an eye on the patient during surgery.
– Assesses the patient's pre- and post-operative status and takes the required steps to maintain stability.
– Assesses the patients after surgery (within 24 hours).
– According to departmental regulations, keeps an accurate record of the controlled substances.
– Maintains tools and supplies in accordance with the department's standards and guidelines.
– Develops and maintains cordial relationships with the general public, patients, staff, and other personnel.
– As needed, may execute additional tasks that fall under the purview of their certification or licensure.
– Notes: Must be able to collaborate with MDAs, CRNAs, and anesthesia technicians within an anesthesia team model.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

• N/A.

Education

• Graduate of an educational program in Nurse Anesthesia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Schools.

License, Certification, Registration

• Valid BCLS card.

• Valid ACLS (American Heart Association).

• PALS card where required.

• Valid and current California RN license.

• CRNA eligible and must achieve certification within five (5) months of date of program completion to continue employment.

 

Additional Requirements:

• New Graduate. Experience in anesthesia for major procedures involving extensive monitoring and fluid, blood, and electrolyte replacement for various age group patients.

• GRNAs must demonstrate both technical/clinical and professional skill and ability along with all related techniques and procedures within the scope of practice as defined by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.

• Additional skills are required in charting and documentation, knowledge of equipment and supplies, productivity, job, and personal maturity communication, and education and staff development.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• General and Regional administration, deep sedation, Hemodynamic monitoring, use of all Anesthesia-related equipment, communication skills, and a team player.

 

Notes:

• This position will float between Anaheim and Irvine.

• Evenings, nights and weekends will be required.
