Description:

A licensed, registered nurse who has completed training in the care of inpatient and/or ambulatory oncology patients serves as the oncology treatment center nurse. The incumbent effectively interacts with doctors and applies a high degree of knowledge of the oncology disease process. knows how oncology patients are treated in hospital systems outside of the Kaiser Permanente Region using a comprehensive approach, including radiation oncology, imaging tests, surgery, and external oncologists. interprets information acquired prior to treatment, applies nursing judgment in accordance with treatment guidelines, and then relays the information to the doctor. Ability to take initiative, act autonomously, and interfere when necessary to solve problems.

Basic understanding of the disease process, coordination of multidisciplinary care, high degree of judgment, aptitude for interpreting data received, aptitude for coordinating and integrating information, and aptitude for communicating medical difficulties with doctors. On the basis of established protocols, directs, starts, and puts the cancer patient care plan into action. collaborates with doctors, nurses, palliative care specialists, and other support teams as well as the patient and their family.

 

Significant Duties:

The duties of the nurses include, but are not limited to, administering chemotherapy, handling blood products, administering infusion treatment, caring for intravenous catheters, caring for central lines, administering medications, and aiding doctors as needed during medical procedures.

Perform therapeutic phlebotomy, venipuncture, and patient and family education about disease processes, treatment plans, and anticipated and unanticipated side effects of therapy to report to clinicians.

-Emergent care management for oncology patients, including the quick identification of emergencies and handling of those situations.

-Make appointments for patients' follow-up care, doctor visits, and scheduling procedures as necessary. examines and keeps track of the health and treatment response of the patient.

-Evaluates therapy side effects and find any extra health issues that could need medical attention. Analyze laboratory data to look for unexpected or atypical outcomes.

-Depending on the patient's medical condition, consults the doctor as needed.

-Starts conversations with other medical personnel (dietician, social services, mental health, etc.).

-Ensures that the proper testing and follow-up are done (makes clinic appointments, contacts patients who miss clinic appointments, etc.).

-Enters patient data into an electronic medical record.

-Offers patients and their families ongoing support and emotional counseling regarding the nature of therapy, the state of the disease, the prognosis, and home management. To deliver high-quality, secure care, the nurse carefully collaborates with the institution's medical, nursing, and support staff.

It is important to maintain continuity between inpatient and outpatient care. acts as the hospital's point of contact for the nursing and medical staff when outpatients are admitted.

-Follows these patients' hospitalizations, offering counseling and emotional support as necessary. The keeping of records relating to patient care falls under the purview of the nurse.

-Continuous learning is necessary, and the nurse will go to at least one oncology conference year.

Basic Qualifications: 
Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of nursing experience as an RN with experience in Oncology, Infusion, Chemotherapy Administration.
Education
  • Associates/Diploma with Current Georgia R.N. Licensure.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Professional Nurse License (Georgia) required at hire
  • Basic Life Support required at hire

 

Additional Requirements:
  • Customer service aptitude demonstrated through Customer Service Assessment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in medical triage and medical office, outpatient, critical care, oncology, or hospital medical surgical oncology experience preferred.
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration Certification or obtained with in the first six (6) months if eligible or one (1) year as a condition of continued employment.
  • Bachelors (B.S.) degree in nursing preferred.
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration Certification.
