Description:
Performs pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical procedures and analyses under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director or their designee to provide data for health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of medical conditions. By working together across departments and using quality control procedures, the quality of patient care and service is improved.
Significant Duties
Verify accurately that the right specimen is being evaluated for the right patients, and that the right test is being carried out. determines whether test specimens are adequate and have the desired attributes.
carries out clinical laboratory specimen analysis in accordance with the accepted standards and practices established by the laboratory director or appointing authority. carries out quality control processes to make sure that clinical data is accurate. help with initiatives for performance enhancement and quality assurance in line with the laboratory quality plan.
determines whether test results are reasonable by using test reference ranges, including those for neonates, children, and adults. correlating test results with test parameters (such as Hgb/Hct, anion gap, platelet count/smear, dipstick/micro, etc.) validates test results. Prior to disclosing test findings, confirm testing on all Critical Values to guarantee accuracy.
on designated instruments and equipment, and carries out standard preventative maintenance and troubleshooting in accordance with specified schedules and protocols. checks and calibrates certain lab instruments to perform instrument functions while recording data. Instrument records keep track of any necessary equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
releases or publishes data in accordance with laboratory SOPs. provides instruction in proper techniques and procedures for clinical laboratory practice to laboratory assistants and other Clinical Lab Scientists. other corresponding tasks as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
As required by lab rules and regulations, provides general or direct supervision of lab assistants and general clerical staff. Corporate Compliance Accountability: Consistently upholds the tenets of corporate compliance and the principles of responsibility by maintaining confidentiality, safeguarding the company's assets, acting honorably, disclosing fraud and abuse, and abiding by program policies and regulations as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Three years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist is required.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree * Applicable military experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Valid California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully communicate information to consumers, clients, and other organization employees in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Applicants must be prepared to work in a labor-management partnership setting.
  • Additionally, take note of the position descriptions provided in the relevant collective bargaining agreement.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience including Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Blood Bank and Bacteriology preferred.
  • Computer application experience/proficiency preferred.
