About (brief history)
The Mid-American Conference's NCAA Division I Ball State Cardinals are based in Muncie. Football is played at Scheumann Stadium, men's basketball is played at John E. Worthen Arena, and baseball are notable sports (played at Ball Diamond).
The Muncie Flyers, also known as the Congerville Flyers, were the city's professional football team from 1905 until 1925, and they were formerly called Muncie home. One of the eleven founding members of the National Football League was the Muncie club (NFL). It participated in league play in 1920 and 1921.
The Muncie Flyers, a minor league hockey team, also called Muncie home. In 1948–1949, the squad participated in the International Hockey League for one season.
Up to the founding of Purdue University in 1869, Chauncey's new town was merely a little suburban community. Due to its inability to provide the necessary infrastructure, Chauncey voted in 1871 to be incorporated into Lafayette (such as improved streets, waterworks, police, and fire protection). Due to the enormous cost of the numerous renovations that Chauncey lacked and Lafayette's opposition, the village was not annexed. Following a petition signed by 152 electors, the town of Chauncey voted in May 1888 to change its name from Chauncey to West Lafayette. At that point, the small town's growth was being fueled by the expansion of the university. Until well into the 20th century, Lafayette, Indiana was listed as the address of Purdue University.
Today, West Lafayette has made a name for itself as a different community, offering its own services and having distinctive neighborhoods separate from those of Lafayette, its sister city.
The majority of the Purdue University academic campus and resident hall system were finally included within the administrative boundaries of the municipality after the City of West Lafayette authorized an annexation in November 2013. A significant portion of the US Highway 231 corridor, which was formerly a part of unincorporated Tippecanoe County, was also a part of this expansion.
Geography of West Lafayette
The Wabash River, which the city borders on the east and south, is visible from West Lafayette, which is located in the center of Tippecanoe County. Although a small piece of the northeastern border of the city extends into Tippecanoe Township, the majority of the city is located in eastern Wabash Township. Elevations in the city's northern regions, close to U.S. Route 52, range from more than 720 feet (220 m) to a little over 500 feet (150 m) near the river.
A total area of 7.63 square miles (19.76 km2) was recorded for West Lafayette in the 2010 Census, of which 7.62 square miles (19.74 km2) (or 99.87%) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) (or 0.13%) is water.
Government of West Lafayette
The mayor, a clerk, and the nine members of the Common Council make up the city's elected officials.
The Common Council, which consists of nine members, has legislative power over the city and enacts legislation through ordinances, orders, resolutions, and motions. The Common Council is made up of three at-large council members in addition to one representative from each of the city's six council districts. The president of the Common Council, who is chosen by the council members, presides over council meetings and would take over as mayor if the latter were to become incapacitated.
There is no cap on the number of terms that any elected official in the city may serve. Regular elections for all offices are held at the same time in the odd year preceding the presidential election year.

The Montessori School of Greater Lafayette teaches grades K–6, and the Pleasantview SDA School is run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Other educational institutions—both public and private—have addresses in West Lafayette but are situated beyond the city.
According to the U.S. Census 2005-2007 American Community Survey, 77% of West Lafayette residents who are 25 years of age or older have a bachelor's degree or higher. On this metric, the city is ranked sixth out of all American cities with a population between 20,000 and 65,000.
Additionally, public schools are run outside the boundaries of West Lafayette by the Tippecanoe School Corporation and Lafayette School Corporation. In addition, Lafayette has a location of Ivy Tech Community College and a number of private schools.
The West Lafayette Public Library is a lending library in the community.
In the Klondike neighborhood to the west of the city, there is a branch of the county-run library (Tippecanoe County Public Library).
Economy
The presence of Purdue University, which has more students enrolled than the entire population of West Lafayette (almost 50,000), has a significant impact on the local economy. 12,000 people work at the university, the majority of whom reside in West Lafayette or Lafayette.
More than 140 businesses call the 725-acre (2.93 km2) Purdue Research Park, founded in 1961, home, with roughly 100 of those being in the technology sector. These businesses have more than 3,000 employees as of 2009. The Park provides research facilities, business incubation facilities, communication infrastructure, beautiful walking routes, and lakes. It is one of the biggest research parks with a university affiliation in the country. The university's non-profit funding and technology licensing arm, Purdue Research Foundation, is the owner of the Purdue Research Park.
However, Lafayette, which is located across the river, is where most commercial activity occurs. The 90-acre (360,000 m2) Wabash Landing/Levee region is the major business sector in West Lafayette. Since the area was completely rebuilt and the Pedestrian Bridge to Lafayette took the place of the old State Street bridge, it has grown into a flourishing urban-type neighborhood. Wabash Landing, a development including stores, eateries, coffee shops, a 9-screen movie theater, a Hilton Garden Inn, and the Riverside Skating Center, is located at The Levee.
