Essential Purposes
• Gives patients who have been diagnosed with ostomies, draining wounds, fistulae, or skin breakdown due to pressure, incontinence, venous hypertension, arterial insufficiency, trauma, surgery, diabetic neuropathy, or other related skin problems follow-up and interventions.
• Offers direct patient care in the form of counseling to people who are preparing for surgery that could lead to the development of a stoma, individualized instruction for people who already have an abdominal stoma for the diversion of feces or urine, or assessment and treatment suggestions for the aforementioned skin breakdown conditions. aids patient in managing connected difficulties throughout continuum of care. evaluates ostomy, continence, and wound care products that are new or already in use. suggests to patients where they can find related products.
• Evaluates the needs and objectives of each patient individually, and offers educational programs on ostomy/wound care management and self-care instruction to doctors, nurses, and other paramedical professionals. organizes continuous education courses for medical professionals and nurses. This aids in offering ostomy patients the most recent standards of practice. teaches and educates patients and their families about ostomy/wound care and self-management.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
• Minimum one (1) year previous clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse caring for patients with abdominal stomas, draining wounds, fistulas, and pressure ulcers.
Education
• Bachelor's degree
• Completion of an accredited Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (WOCN) program.
License, Certification, Registration
• Current CA RN license.
• AHA BLS.
• Current Board Certification in Wound (CWCN) and Ostomy (COCN) Nursing.
• Certified Continence Nurse (CCCN) may be required as specified by department.
• PODIATRY – only current Board Certification in Wound (CWCN) Nursing is required.

Additional Requirements:
• Demonstrated knowledge of pediatric and adult patient teaching principles.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary and integumentary systems including pathophysiology.
• Effective communication skills.
• Fine motor dexterity.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Current Board Certification in Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (CWOCN).
