The Obstetrical Technician aids the skilled nursing personnel in the Labor and Delivery Unit by carrying out non-nursing tasks under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.

 

Essential Purposes

Oversees and evaluates the work of other obstetric technicians.

Takes part in the department's new Obstetrical Technicians' orientation and training.

Inspects labor rooms and delivery rooms for sufficient, functional supplies and equipment.

Keeps track of supply expiration dates and preventive maintenance for equipment.

Installs emergency gear.

Greets visitors to the unit and leads them to the proper room.

Obtains the patient's photo ID and Kaiser Card.

Creates momentary ID bracelets for patients.

When necessary, transports patients to the delivery room, the cesarean delivery room, the ultrasound room, or the postpartum room.

Examines the pull charts and testing schedule.

Ensures a sufficient and proper supply of packets.

Prepares the baby unit and sterile delivery table for birth.

Unpacks and arranges supplies for cesarean birth.

C-section surgical scrubs.

Aids the nurse when the patient is in the delivery room, Cesarean delivery room, or recovery room.

Monitor strip files are kept in envelopes.

Cleans instruments before putting them on the main supply cart for sterilization.

Delivers samples to the lab.

Maintains a clean and orderly utility room and supply room.

Responds to the phone and lights.

Executes other relevant tasks as required.

While motivating and directing work for other employees, this position does not have the power to hire, fire, reprimand, or offer performance reviews.

Basic Qualifications:

– Two (2) years experience as an Obstetrical Technician plus the demonstrated ability to perform and under general supervision frequently do perform the most complex techniques and procedures of the classification in accordance w/ the specifications set by the department head.

– High School Diploma/GED.

 – BLS certification.

– Basic computer skills.

– Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.

– Ability to write simple correspondence.

– Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

– The senior level classification for Obstetrical Technician shall apply only to Obstetrical Technicians assigned by the Employer to direct and check the work of one (1) or more Obstetrical Technicians.

 – Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

– Refer to the position specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

Workdays: week 1 – Wed, Thu. Week 2 – Sun, Mon, Fri, Sat

Working Hours Start: 11:00 PM

Working Hours End: 07:30 AM
